VIRGO / SOHO

The VIRGO experiment provide the following observational and derived data:
- continuous high-precision, high-stability and high-accuracy measurements of the solar total and spectral irradiance and spectral radiance variation;
- continuous measurements of the solar polar and equatorial diameters;
- frequencies, amplitudes and phases of oscillation modes in the frequency range of 1 uHz to 8 mHz;

The total irradiance is measured with active cavity radiometers (PM06-V and the Dual Irradiance Absolute Radiometer, DIARAD), the spectral irradiance by three-channel Sunphotometers (SPM) and the radiance with 12 resolution elements on the solar disk using the Luminosity Oscillations Imager (LOI).

GOLF / SOHO

The GOLF experiment on the SOHO mission aims to study the internal structure of the sun by measuring the spectrum of global oscillations in the frequency range 10-7 to 10-2 Hz. Both p and g mode oscillations will be investigated, with the emphasis on the low order long period waves which penetrate the solar core.

Gerard Grec is GOLF project scientist and member of the Scientific committee, Janine Provost and Catherine Renaud are members of the GOLF team

HELAS HELio and AStero-seismology Coordinated Action

This initiative is funded by the European Commission since April 1st, 2006, as a “Co-ordination Action” under its Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).

CNRS / OCA is a member of the network and T. Corbard is member of the board (head since 2008).


PICARD mission

Première mission de mesure métrologique de diamètre du soleil hors atmosphère.

PICARD est une expérience spatiale (CNES / LATMOS) de mesure simultanée de l’irradiance solaire absolue totale et spectrale, du diamètre et de la forme du soleil, et de sondage de son intérieur par la méthode de l’héliosismologie. Ces mesures obtenues au cours de la mission permettront de connaître la variabilité des paramètres précédents en fonction de l’activité solaire.

Dans le cadre de la mission nous collaborons avec:

- le LATMOS (Guyancourt) (maître d’œuvre du développement de la charge utile)
- le CNES (Toulouse) (responsable du développement du système)
- l’ IAS (Orsay)
- le CEA (Saclay)
- l’ IAC (Tenerife)
